Job Description
Pain Management
Overton Brooks VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician for the Chronic Pain Management Clinic, located in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Physician shall be Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or Pain related specialty and provide care to Veteran patients in the Pain Management Outpatient Clinic. Additional qualifications, training, or experience in pain medicine and addiction medicine is desired but not required. The Physician will provide clinical supervision for healthcare professionals such as NP's, PA's, and other pain clinic staff. Duties of the position may include but are not limited to:
• The Physician will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary pain management clinic team (i.e., Primary Care, Behavioral Health, Mental Health, Pharmacy, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation). Participates in all activities pertinent to the pain management program.
• Will evaluate and treat patients with pain and assist with our institution's efforts towards comprehensive, effective, and safe pain management for our veterans.
• Will also be treating opioid use disorder with Medication Assisted Therapy medications, collaborating with our Addiction Specialist, and seeing patients for opioid risk mitigation.
• Provides comprehensive chronic pain evaluation and treatment recommendations in formal consultations and e-consultations. S/he is expected to order and review laboratory and other tests when appropriate.
• Independently uses professional judgement and expertise to make decisions about services and treatment provided to veterans and their significant others/family members.
• .S/he is expected to coordinate collegially with other pain staff to develop and implement chronic pain treatment plans.
• Administrative duties include interacting with Mental Health, Primary Care, and specialty providers, addressing policy implementation, and providing clinical and administrative oversight.
• Must be competent in the management of the opioid and non-opioid treatment modalities and prescribing with use of the state prescription drug monitoring system.
