Assistant Director, Internship Programs

Northwestern Mutual is currently hiring for an Assistant Director- Internship programs. The Assistant Director Internship programs will be accountable for directing all facets of our award-winning internship program, ensuring it is elevated and innovated for the next generation of candidates while meeting recruiting, production and conversion goals. Through innovation and experimentation, the team develops and implements best practices for the people, processes, and systems necessary to engage, acquire and launch new talent.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with Home Office partners, leads the creation of recruiting strategies and programs that best position field recruiting teams to attract a diversity of top talent. Key strategies will be influenced by analytics and insights, and are measured by their impact on recruiting, diversity, productivity, and retention. Areas of focus include:​ career value proposition design branding, strategic sourcing partnerships & campus relationships, program experience & curriculum, awards, recognition and measuring impact of the program, marketing efforts to elevate the program – alumni networks, industry recognition, success stories, and diversity, inclusion & belonging
  • Develops and maintains an awareness of activities and trends in internship recruiting. Presents and ensures action on analysis of data and metrics in order to evaluate effectiveness and continued success of the internship program and recommendations for process improvement.
  • Lead efforts for overall field engagement with our network offices, developing a continuous engagement and communication plan is in place and executed across the team in order to ensure our work products meet the working needs of distribution.
  • Active member on project teams that impact NM's distribution system and the movement of talent.
  • Heightened focus will be placed on identifying and researching best practices from within Northwestern Mutual, the financial services industry and beyond to evaluate their impact on strategic priorities. Through experimentation, this individual will test and learn what ideas will drive growth, the best of which will then be scaled for system-wide usage.


  • Bachelors Degree w/ advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in talent acquisition w/ 2+ years in leadership
  • Experience with developing strategies focused on employment branding, sourcing, diversity inclusion, and selection
  • Demonstrated ability to identify or anticipate future trends and lead the necessary change management
  • Strong listening and relationship management skills
  • Proven ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Proven ability to influence change through others
  • Travel required approximately 25%
