Description:
The Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Assistant Scientist. The Assistant Scientist carries out a particular research agenda in support of the University’s research goals and objectives. Moreover, the Assistant Scientist contributes to the scientific community by publishing research findings and promotes the University’s reputation as a leader in the field.
Perform electrophysiological experiments on isolated pancreas cells, intact pancreatic islets, and pancreas slices.
Conduct patch-clamp experiments in different configurations, such as whole cell and perforated path configurations.
Assist other scientists in the division with electrical stimulation of endocrine, vascular, and neural cell in the pancreas, intracellular injections of dyes, and recording electric field potentials from isolated islets or pancreatic slices.
Draft and submit proposals to government and local agencies to secure competitive funding.
Facilitate the formation of project teams to generate and conceptualize ideas, delegate tasks such as research and needs assessment and synchronize concept development for grant and publications.
Grant writing, editing, and serving as a liaison between faculty and researchers to develop grant ideas for funding applications.
Directly involved in the data collection generated by researchers, its interpretation, and writing of progress reports for already existing projects to guarantee funding continuity.
Maintain a calendar related to funding opportunities including proposal due dates for grants, progress reports and publications.
Remote communications software basic knowledge required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree in relevant field
Minimum 2 year of relevant experience
Fluent in English.
Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
Knowledge in Endnote, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
