Job Description

For the last 7 years in a row ASU has been recognized by US News & World Report as the most innovative University. The University Technology Office (UTO) develops, operates, supports, and advises on innovative technology used by ASU to advance discoveries and the student experience. The UTO is seeking a driven IT professional to work on the Managed Environment Services team as part of a group providing customer support, guidance, and oversight to a number of different technology situations. This person will coordinate with associated IT teams to provide management of IT systems leveraged by the University Police Department for critical operations. The Systems Analyst will develop strategic partnerships with the Police Department and their vendors to implement and support IT solutions.

The Systems Analyst provides support to users of information technology tools. Work typically involves a combination of providing expert advice and troubleshooting on one or more software products; administering and maintaining share-use systems; communicating with and providing instruction to users and user groups on technology topics; and evaluating, recommending, and installing technological solutions to new problems or situations.

Salary Range

$58,824 - $70,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

Consults with users and Information Technology personnel in solving problems relating to existing system policies, procedures, operations and/or technical systems and implements approved solutions.
Acts as the liaison between system users and computer services.
Consults with users on the development and implementation of new systems, including requirements, definition, design, installation and testing.
Coordinates and supervises initial implementation of new systems and assists with necessary training of personnel to effect system changes.
Analyzes and identifies policies, systems or procedures which can be improved and recommends appropriate changes to management.
Reviews system control and management reports to maintain system integrity and to assist in problem resolution.
Assists in the implementation of new or revised business procedures.
Assists with the analysis of systems impacting various users and assists to reach a consensus of opinion on the best approach.
Prepares management analyses and reports; coordinates the development of systems and procedure manuals.
Coordinates periodic reviews of current systems to ensure complete implementation.
Conducts interviews with supervisors, managers and staff personnel during the information gathering phase of system development.
Provides training for new and revised procedures as required.
Takes responsibility for fostering culture, advancing our values, and championing engagement in all its forms -- collaborating across our teams as well as participating in UTO/ASU events and programs. Assumes or coordinates other duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Technology or related field AND two (2) years experience providing information technology services; OR, Six (6) years experience providing information technology services; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Certificates from recognized programs that indicate mastery of tools and techniques relevant to the assignment may substitute for up to six months experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in public safety.
Knowledge of police or fire department operations and dispatch preferred.
Experience with Windows and Linux systems administration.
Exposure to administration of modern application architectures.
Familiarity with enterprise storage offerings including on-prem, cloud, and hybrid.
Familiarity with networking and firewall administration.
Ability to communicate complex technical information to diverse populations of varying technical proficiencies.
Ability to translate user needs into technical solutions.
Experience building both formal and informal professional networks.
Experience maintaining cooperative and collaborative working relationships with clients and among team members.
Experience translating up-to-date information into continuous improvement activities that enhance performance.
Experience making decisions in a changing environment and anticipating future needs.
Experience in voluntarily identifying and addressing existing and potential obstacles, issues, and opportunities.
Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with handling sensitive issues and information with confidentiality and discretion.
Experience working independently, following directions, multitasking, providing attention to detail, and handling projects with tight deadlines.
Knowledge of the risks and opportunities involved in the use of various technologies.
Knowledge of ASU including policies, relationships, dependencies, and the ability to identify key individuals within various business units.
Knowledge of the UTO Service and Product catalog and the various support teams within UTO.
Knowledge of project management principles a plus.
Ability to model empathy, compassion and emotional intelligence

Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing.
