The Discovery Technologies and Molecular Pharmacology (DTMP) team is a critical part of the Discovery Sciences organization in Janssen R&D and is committed to the delivery of high-quality leads needed for the generation of clinical compounds for all five Janssen Therapeutic Area discovery teams. This mission requires deep scientific expertise in several disciplines including biochemistry, cellular pharmacology, hit identification, and protein science. The Lead Evaluation and Cellular Pharmacology department is responsible for the delivery of high-quality lead molecules through rapid, innovative, and therapeutically relevant cellular assays.  The Lead Evaluation and Cellular Pharmacology department leverages technology, innovation, and broad scientific knowledge in our collaboration with Janssen Therapeutic Areas, Discovery Chemistry, and functional teams and with external collaborators in academia and industry. We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Senior Scientist to drive the implementation of High Throughput (HT) translational and imaging platforms and HT state-of-the-art cell-based assays for supporting immunology, oncology, and/or cardiovascular and metabolic therapeutic areas.

The candidate will have strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to connect with our internal and external partners to deliver on goals and objectives, foster an environment of collaboration, collegiality, and positive communication.  S/He should demonstrate strong independence at the bench, be adept at multi-tasking, and able to analyze and communicate data to colleagues within DTMP and with key partners.

The Senior Scientist, High Throughput Cellular and Imaging Assays   - Lead Evaluation and Cellular Pharmacology will:

• Develop primary and/or multidimensional in vitro cellular assays for a variety of translational read-outs
• Implement high-content cellular and tissue imaging methodology and processes.
• Execute and troubleshoot weekly screening assays, including ensuring high-quality data analysis and reporting.
• Exhibit an awareness of new technology advances and scientific knowledge in the field and methods to apply them to assays in the laboratory.
• Ability to succeed in cross functional teams to establish productive collaborations
• Contribute data and methods to compelling scientific presentations and reports for internal review meetings and scientific journals.

• A Ph.D. in Cell Biology and/or Physiology, Immunology, Oncology, or relevant field with 3+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry or relevant academic experience, -or an M.S. with 6+ years, or candidates with a B.S. degree with 10+ years industry experience may be considered.
• Expertise in the establishment of high throughput cell-based assays with readouts, such as fluorescence, chemiluminescence, TR-FRET, FLIPR, and/or cytokine-detection is required.
• Extensive knowledge and proficiency in high-content imaging technologies, multiplex immunohistochemistry techniques is required.
• Hands-on experience of cutting-edge technologies in 3D and multiplex high-content cellular and tissue imaging is preferred.
• Expertise in image processing algorithms, image analysis software methodology and assay automation is preferred.
• Experience in data analysis, interpretation, and visualization is required, with preference to those with experience in big data analytics.
• A good command of mammalian histology is preferred.
• Expertise compound profiling is preferred.
• Experience in qPCR and nucleic acid techniques is preferred.
• Experience in stable cell line generation, shRNA knock-down, and/or CRISPR gene editing is preferred.
• Proficiency in GraphPad Prism, PerkinElmer Signal, Biovia Electronic Lab Notebook, SoftMax Pro, Genedata Screener and Spotfire is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct and coordinate work across multiple disciplines, including immunology, oncology, and cardiovascular-metabolic is preferred.
• Demonstrated excellence in both written and oral communication is required.
• A publication record in immunology, oncology, or related biology area is preferred.
