Senior Finance Manager, R&D Ops Strategy and Consolidations

Senior Finance Manager, Research & Development Operations (RDO) Strategy and Consolidations, will: 

  • Complete ownership and accountability of the Global Research & Development Operations/Functions Actual and Forecasting process for all major and minor updates associated with consolidating $4.5+B of Pharm R&D investment.  This includes all aspects of actuals, latest thinkings (LT), forecasts, preparing and presenting financial content, and leading presentation support for Business and Finance Leadership Team.
  • Provide consolidation and guidance support for JRD Ops for headcount management and tracking (10k headcount or ~70%+ of total JRD headcount).
  • Work with Sr. Finance Director on framing results to senior business and finance leadership for JRD Operational functions and in addition providing guidance to Ops/functions finance team as well as business on Range Financial Plan / Strategic Planning.
  • Provide financial leadership for the DPDS Admin and External Innovation Actual and Forecast.
  • Overseeing Clinical Out of Pocket (OOP) ~$1B in annual spend through close partnership with CROs (IQVIA, Parexel, etc.), JRD Procurement, External Alliances team, CFS (PMO), GTLs (PDO) and key R&D partners to help optimize management of strategic vendors, improve forecasting and key business categories focused on clinical trials to drive alignment and harmonization across R&D programs.
  • Business owner for Affiliate Funding activities for JRD ($0.7MM) responsible for coordination and leadership of actual and forecast cycles by partnering with finance/business colleagues across the Global (45+ countries) and understand financial impact to JRD reporting and financials.
  • Business owner for Flex resources for JRD (3,000+ HC) responsible for managing Flex vendors, partnering closely with Procurement, Strategic Partnership and across JRD finance team.
  • Support and lead SigniFi related efforts (SME for JRD Ops group and JRD SigniFi Change Agent)
  • Provide coordination and leadership for billable model activities (such as rate updates, demand analysis, etc.) with finance business colleagues in various U.S. and OUS locations and understand financial impact to JRD reporting and financials.
  • Proactive partnership with all areas (finance and non-finance) in JRD to drive further accuracy and efficiency and act as liaison with FP&A, System team, TAs, and business for JRD Ops/functions related activities.
  • Drive process improvements in reporting & analytics across JRD Ops/Functions by demonstrating leadership in development and implementation of future reporting enhancements for JRD finance in projects including, but not limited to, standard BvA, headcount master schedule, and enhanced OOP Viz.
  • Drive simplification, standardization, and automation in functional and out of pocket financial support for GD (global development) and DPDS Development (product development solutions) functions via COE created for centralized finance support under this manager role.
  • Ownership of Transparency Report of JRD cost for Enterprise Research & Development Organization.
  • Manage and effectively coach the daily activities of the Global team (5 SFAs, intern and coop) and directly report to Sr. Finance Director, Global R&D Ops/Functions Finance.
  • Ad Hoc related projects as needed (ex: Optimize R&D Project Planning, etc.)
  • Ensure that the principles and elements of the Credo, J&J Business policies, Healthcare Compliance, Regulatory, GAAP, and Sarbanes Oxley are adhered to in all aspects of job responsibilities. 

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required.
  • A CPA, CMA or MBA is preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in Finance, Accounting or related field is required.
  • Prior experience managing and developing people is preferred.
  • Pharmaceutical experience or consolidations experience cross-enterprise is highly preferred.
  • This position requires a highly motivated individual with strong analytical skills, continuous improvement mindset and proven leadership capabilities.
  • The ability to work independently, handle several tasks simultaneously and operate within internal compliance guidelines is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in ability to partner with associates at all levels of the organization is required.
  • Strong communications and presentation skills, along with solid interpersonal, strategic framing and influencing skills, are required.


  • This position may require up to 10% travel.
  • It is preferred that this role will sit in Raritan, NJ. Consideration will be given to Spring House, PA and Titusville, NJ.
