Director of Clinical Operations & Consumer Experience

This unique role has multiple responsibilities across J&J Consumer Health’s family of brands human use and clinical research activities.  The position has direct management responsibilities for the Skin Health (SH) & Essential Health (EH) U.S. Clinical Operations and for the Consumer Experience Centers (CxC’s) in Skillman, NJ and Val-de-Reuil, France.  This position will also lead the Global SH/EH Community of Practice and the Global CxC Community of Practice which includes global oversight and simplification efforts.

The EH portfolio includes brands such as LISTERINE®, BAND-AID® & JOHNSON’S®.  The SH portfolio includes brands such as NEUTROGENA®, CLEAN AND CLEAR® & AVEENO®.  The CxC’s fit into our overall strategy of putting our consumers at the center of all we do.  CxC’s are state-of-the art research & development (R&D) hubs focused on gaining holistic insights where our R&D teams can interact with our volunteer consumers in ‘labs’ designed to replicate how consumers interact with our products. 

The Director will collaborate with multiple stakeholders on operational strategy, compliance, and simplification efforts.  The Director must possess the ability to set and execute operational strategy, along with a willingness to contribute as an individual.  This role requires the ability to develop and/or build on capabilities in the areas of Virtual Research, Hybrid Studies, Real World Evidence (RWE) and alternative methods of data collection.

Success for this position will be assessed by criteria that include but are not limited to:

  • Delivery of project milestones/commitments (within time, budget, and quality expectations) in a highly matrixed environment
  • Measurable improvements to operational effectiveness/efficiency (e.g., cycle time, productivity/throughput) and other key performance metrics
  • Evolving business models, organizational structures, processes, systems to strengthen organizational capabilities and improve organizational performance
  • A deep understanding of our Brand’s priorities, differences, and opportunities
  • Management and development of direct and indirect reports while living into Johnson & Johnson’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Vision and Mission
  • Building/maintaining effective partnerships with senior leaders.
  • Leads global SH/EH Clinical Operations and CxC teams with purpose to maximize the power of diversity, equity, and inclusion to drive a global mindset and ensure team engagement
  • Oversees, contributes to, and collaborates in the operational design and conduct of human use studies
  • Directs the development of study/program budgets and timelines
  • Anticipates, adapts to, and leads change
  • Builds and mobilizes a team capable of working "virtually" across locations and regions.



Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, preferably in the Life Sciences, e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Healthcare Management.  Advanced degree and or Master’s degree is preferred.

    • Requires a minimum of ten (10) years operational experience in clinical trials with a pharmaceutical/consumer and/or Clinical Research Organization (CRO)
    • Experience in more than one Regulatory category preferred (OTC, Cosmetics, or Class 2 Medical Devices)
    • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience required
    • Strong knowledge of global clinical trial regulations required
    • General understanding of Design Controls a plus
    • Experience with simplification of Standard Operating Procedures and/or work-flow a plus
    • Must have excellent communication skills in English (both oral and written) and be able to work effectively in cross-functional teams both internally and externally to the organization
    • Proficient in Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint
    • Attention to detail, organized, and capable of prioritizing multiple tasks
    • Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and assignments
