Corporate Risk helps all Wells Fargo businesses identify and manage risk. The team focuses on several key risk types, including conduct, credit, financial crimes, information security, interest rate, liquidity, market, model, operational, regulatory compliance, reputation, strategic, and technology risk. The group provides leadership, enhances communications, assists with problem identification and solutions, and shares best practices. In addition, the group provides an enterprise-wide view of risk, assists management and our Board of Directors in identifying and monitoring risks that may affect multiple lines of business, and takes appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the company.

This newly created Operational Risk Officer will be part of the Risk Program Oversight Team in Independent Risk Management (IRM) aligned to Transaction Processing and Execution (TPE). This team member will partner with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management from all three lines of defense.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving as lead point of contact for transaction process and exception risk (TPE) within the New Business Initiatives Program
  • Attending steering committees and work groups to ensure appropriate risk management coverage
  • Challenging strategic initiatives requirements and develops alternative approaches/solutions
  • Engaging subject matter experts in focus areas including: Operations, WIM, WHSL, CB/CIB and Enterprise Functions
  • Building and sustaining a strong risk culture including a balanced approach through working in cooperation and consultation with all lines of defense across the enterprise
  • Executing timely oversight responsibilities while serving as centralized contact for TPE activities and related risks
  • Providing and facilitating the administration of credible challenge in a structured, timely and focused manor
  • Reviewing and approving material changes to methodology and related questionnaire
  • Highlighting and/or escalating material operational risk management issues generated through New Business Initiatives 
  • Driving critical decisions and managing multiple stakeholders to reach agreed upon solutions
  • Communicating internally/externally across the Operational Risk Type Coverage Program


Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 7+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in risk management

  • Ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear manner
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Exposure to Wells Fargo RCSA (Risk and Control Self Assessment) tool
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization



Other Desired Qualifications
  • 7+ years of professional experience in Financial Services with SR 15-18 firms  with experience covering banking, insurance, investments, mortgage,  consumer and /or commercial financial services
  • Knowledge of Basel II event types, especially execution, delivery, and process management-
  • Experience developing enterprise risk management governance / framework
  • Experience with Key Risk Indicators (KRI), Key Performance Indicators (KPI), and/or Risk Appetite
  • Experience with an enterprise risk management framework, including: risk identification, risk appetite and strategy, risk-related decisions, processes and controls, risk analytics and governance and thematic reviews.
  • Experience with management-level governance committee and/or new business/products
  • Challenging strategic initiatives requirements and develops alternative approaches/solutions, with an ability to prioritize leveraging risk based approach
  • Ability to successfully identify, assess, measure, mitigate, monitor, control and report current and emerging operational risk exposures within TPE (Transaction processing and execution risk)
  • Leading change management initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead change through actions, deeds and peer network.
  • Strategic leadership skills to drive alignment across stakeholder groups to develop and deliver repeatable end to end risk management solutions
  • Proven ability to scope, manage and execute  business initiatives with high quality and timely delivery in a matrixed Corporate environment


Job Expectations

  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time



Salary Information

The salary range displayed below is based on a Full-time 40 hour a week schedule.

NC-Charlotte: Min: $110,600 Mid: $158,000
NY-New York: Min: $132,700 Mid: $189,600
TX-DAL-Downtown Dallas: Min: $110,600 Mid: $158,000
MN-Minneapolis: Min: $110,600 Mid: $158,000
AZ-PHX-Central Phoenix: Min: $110,600 Mid: $158,000
