Global Market Development Manager

The Position:

The successful candidate will be a results oriented leader and will coordinate closely with the Cell Culture and Cell Therapy Global Market Development team, and partners at various levels in the company to develop and execute marketing plans and positioning focused on the Supplements and Sera business. Additionally, s/he will partner with the Cell Culture and Cell Therapy Business, Regional Marketing, Sales, Corporate Marketing, Channel Marketing, and Executive Management to execute integrated marketing programs designed to help achieve global sales, marketing, and revenue goals. S/he acts as project lead and liaison to internal and outside vendors, maintaining excellent professional relationships, in order to facilitate the conversion of marketing ideas and messages into effective marketing programs leading to revenue, improved customer intimacy, and growth in a dynamic environment. Channel Marketing responsibility includes but not limited to digital marketing, promotions, events, sales force, and (where applicable) distributors. Scope is global. The successful candidate will have experience in marketing, sales, and have exceptional communication and execution skills paired with exceptional organizational skills and business acumen to achieve goals on time. Experience within the life science market a definite strength.


  • Develop strategic marketing plans for the Supplements and Sera business that reinforces the GTM value proposition, including analysis of customer segments, competitor analysis, business trends, and market opportunities.
  • Create and implement appropriate marketing content across multiple channels, including social media, web, video, print and events. Design and develop a segment-appropriate, consistent global BioProduction communication message that hits at minimum bi-yearly, ideally quarterly.
  • Create and implement marketing content for Thermo Fisher Scientific Channel business.
  • Recommend and execute the implementation of new approaches to the current plan and strategy.
  • Act as a brand ambassador, understanding, upholding, and communicating our multi-brand strategy in all aspects of our marketing programs.
  • Interact with varying levels of internal and external personnel including direct customer communication, public presentation, and a team-focused approach.
  • Works closely with regional marketing to deploy, monitor and report on performance metrics.
  • Gathers feedback from customers, global and other regional counterparts, and field sales to identify new market trends and opportunities. Uses this information to provide input to broader business/market development strategy to drive a sustainable competitive advantage.
  • Achieves financial and market goals. Performs regular detail analysis & routine reporting around business performance and segmentation
  • Lead cross-functional teams as an individual contributor to develop tactical action plans that drive growth in key channels and customer segments.
  • Must be willing to learn and take coaching from peers and supervisors/superiors, both in success and failure.
  • Must have a can-do attitude, as well as the ability to overcome failures to produce success with a “never give up” approach.
  • Field travel as necessary to visit customers, attend trade shows and to keep in touch with the global market-place (up to 25% travel globally).
  • May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in cell, molecular and/or protein biology or related discipline with 10 years’ experience in a marketing and/or sales role.
  • Has thorough functional understanding of the corporate market functions, planning and strategy, and in depth knowledge of life science bioprocessing or research markets with knowledge of competitors.
  • Strong business acumen, marketing experience, and customer focus are essential.
  • Ability to work on problems of routine to diverse scope.
  • Ability to influence at a senior level without direct authority. Identifies problems, answers questions, gain cooperation of others and implement efficient solutions.
  • Demonstrates strong strategic and tactical thinking; must be creative and have the “big picture” viewpoint.
  • Works well in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Has to be able to work cross-functionally and with a variety of business needs and expectations; familiar with matrix organizations.
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and has the ability to communicate internally and externally with different businesses and management levels.
  • Knowledge of the following key competencies: 4Ps and marketing mix, marketing communication, communication channels, channels-to-market, segmentation, value proposition and marketing program development and execution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters/PhD in a life science area and/or MBA in marketing or business.
