Hurricane Relief & Recovery Efforts at McGraw-Hill

Are you interested in working for a company that is committed to corporate responsibility and sustainability? Hurricane Sandy brought out the best of McGraw-Hill in the worst of times.

More than 5,000 McGraw-Hill employees in the New York metro area and New Jersey were impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Almost immediately after the hurricane, our Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability department responded with information about an emergency corporate matching campaign, volunteer opportunities for McGraw-Hill employees, plans for food and coat drives, and information about how to help in our communities.

McGraw-Hill launched a Special Disaster Relief Matching Gift Program. This program matches employee contributions one-for-one, up to the US equivalent of $2,000, and is open to all employees globally. The corporation is also honoring contributions that were made by employees to other eligible charitable organizations that are engaged in relief efforts. McGraw-Hill' s corporate match of all contributions will be directed to the American Red Cross and their relief and recovery efforts for Hurricane Sandy.

Once we were able to get back into some of our offices, a group of McGraw-Hill employees rallied on short notice to volunteer at City Harvest headquarters in Long Island City, Queens. City Harvest is a food rescue organization, collecting 42 million pounds of excess food each year and delivering it free of charge to over 600 community food programs. Our volunteers helped put together 1,000 emergency food bags in an improvised assembly line at the City Harvest warehouse.

McGraw-Hill has also organized a virtual food drive with City Harvest from November 20th to December 15th to help feed the hungry in NYC, including the victims of Sandy. Employees will be able to make donations using their credit cards which will also be matched by the Corporation. McGraw-Hill will also be participating in the New York Cares coat drive from November 20th to December 14th, where we will be collecting coats at two of our NYC office locations.
