“After 11 years of active service with the U.S. Navy, a career with the
U.S. Department of State allows me to continue serving my country
while making the most of my technical skills.”

Military service is both part of who I am and part of my family, as both my husband and son have served. After leaving the Navy, I went back to school and earned a bachelor’s degree. Prior to graduating, I attended an on-campus career event, where I met a recruiter from the U.S. Department of State who encouraged me to pursue a career as a Foreign Service Specialist. I took the recruiter’s advice and applied online at careers.state.gov.

As a Foreign Service Information Management Specialist, I apply the leadership skills I learned in the military as well as my technical expertise. By managing the IT systems in U.S. embassies and consulates abroad, I keep employees connected to information that is essential to policy development, embassy construction and renovation, and other initiatives that support diplomacy throughout the world.

Consider applying your professional skills, cultural background and unique perspectives to a global public service career with the U.S. Department of State.

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the U.S. Department of State offers Foreign Service careers that provide an opportunity to live and work abroad as an Officer or Specialist, with over 20 different career paths from which to choose.

Foreign Service careers also offer access to training, development, and outstanding benefits including health and medical coverage, a federal retirement plan, and generous paid leave. We even provide paid housing and education for children (K-12) when you serve abroad.
