Growing up in Detroit, I always had a passion for public service. I began my career as a Foreign Service Officer in the Economic career track in Hong Kong, assisting local citizens traveling to America and helping American citizens worldwide. Working for the U.S. Department of State, I have used my Chinese language skills and cultural knowledge to connect with others. My passion for service led me to a career in diplomacy.

So if you have an interest in public service and are seeking a challenge, you can apply your education and professional experiences in a global career with the U.S. Department of State as you represent the United States as a Civil or Foreign Service professional and contribute your diverse background, linguistic skills, and unique perspectives in an intellectually stimulating and challenging way.

Based in Washington, D.C., our Civil Service offers 10 mission-critical career paths that range from Foreign Affairs to Contract Procurement to Human Resources while the Foreign Service provides an opportunity to live and work abroad as an Officer or Specialist, with the choice of more than 20 different career paths. Five career tracks are available for Officers, including: Management, Consular or Economics and 22 for Foreign Service Specialists, including Information Technology, Engineering, Medical and Healthcare, Executive Administration, Construction and Facilities Management. Whichever path you choose, each day you will respond with effective solutions in a fast-paced environment to help us fulfill our diplomatic mission.

This is an opportunity unlike any other — a chance to employ your innovative thinking, entrepreneurial drive, and collaborative approach to a career representing your country. You will receive exemplary training and career development, competitive compensation and educational reimbursement.
