HBCU Miles College Awarded $2 Million from IBM to Train Black Students in Modern Tech

Posted By: Kennedy Williams on November 24, 2020 Thanks to the major tech company's initiative to prepare the next generation of industry professionals, IBM and Miles College recently announced their collaboration for a brand-new comprehensive program that will help advance students’ knowledge of modern digital skills. While discussing the new collaboration, Miles College President Bobbie Knight said, “Miles College celebrates IBM’s leadership in recognizing the value of investing in HBCU students as current and future leaders and innovators in the technology workforce. While the digital divide has historically placed many students at a technological disadvantage, this initiative will absolutely help narrow the gap.” Through this multi-million-dollar program, Miles students will receive training in artificial intelligence, Blockchain, cybersecurity, data science, quantum computing, and other tech applications. However, the Alabama institution is not the only HBCU that will benefit from IBM's Skills Academy Academic Initiative. Miles joins the ranks of 15 other HBCUs around the country that are determined to help Black students get top notch modern tech training to become industry leaders.
