Donald Trump Presidential Campaign Spams HBCU Graduates to Raise Campaign Funds
Posted By: Will Moss on September 23, 2020 |
Apparently a Trump / Pence campaign supporting organization has gotten a hold of a list of alumni or graduates of HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) and is sending out invitations to donate funds to the Trump campaign during a live presidential debate.
The email being sent out to many non-trump supporters within the African American community is coming from an organization using the email address "firstname.lastname@example.org".
Upon further research, the website "buildingourmovement.com" is owned by an entity that hides itself behind a "Domain by Proxy Service" which is fishy in and of itself. But their spam emails forward visitors to a donation page hosted by "donaldjtrump.com" which appears to be a legitimate donation portal for the campaign organized by the Trump Make America Great Again committee.
"I received an email from DonaldJTrump.
com, and thought at first that maybe it was a scam/spam email to collect funds as a scam, but sure enough the website forwards people to the actual campaign site to collect donations. The funny thing is, I am an independent and I have never donated to the Trump campaign or any republican campaigns in my life. But the email refers to me as a TOP supporter of President Trump. Complete garbage and a very shady spam campaign at a minimum." said Will Moss, founder and CEO of HBCUConnect.com.
The email urges recipients to donate $42 today and have their name displayed during the presidential debate.
The dangerous thing about the email however is the fact that it is flirting with breaking laws against the CAN SPAM act.
IF you have received similar spam messages from the Trump campaign, you can make an official complaint to the FTC here:
