The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) is offering grants to promote inclusivity of diverse populations in STEM by providing funding to undergraduate, graduate, postdoc, and junior faculty looking to attend the Cell Bio Virtual meeting. The grants will provide reimbursement of ASCB membership fees (allowing individuals to attend the meeting free of charge) and fees associated with abstract submission to present a poster if desired, although abstract submission is not required. The deadline to apply for the grant is Oct. 21.
Inclusivity grants are available to undergraduate, graduate, postdoc, and junior faculty who identify as underrepresented minorities (defined by the NIH as: Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, American Indians or Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and other Pacific Islanders AND individuals with disabilities, who are defined as those with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more life activities).
Underrepresented minorities in these career stages, as well as junior faculty at primarily undergraduate institutions or faculty at minority-serving institutions in the United States can apply for these grants. Since actual travel is not required to attend the meeting, the grants will provide reimbursement of both membership dues and abstract fees. Membership and abstract fees must be submitted in advance of the grant application.
These grants are made possible through ASCB's Innovative Programs to Enhance Research Training (IPERT) grant from the National Institutes of Health.
ASCB is also offering grants to offset the cost of childcare for scientists with dependent children who wish to attend Cell Bio Virtual 2020.
