4 Rights Every Employed Person Should Know About

4 Rights Every Employed Person Should Know About
Posted By: Dixie Somers on July 23, 2020

Rights often mean the privileges that the law accords us regardless of age, nationality, tribe, or race. Therefore, as a citizen of any country, you have various rights as an employee of any organization. In this review, we will look at some rights that your employer should grant you without objection.

Employee rights are necessary because they help protect vulnerable employees from mismanagement by their employers. Without strict guidelines on how employers should treat their employees, most employees will be susceptible to constant threats and unlawful mistreatment. Some universal rights include health laws, discrimination laws, and minimum wage laws, among others.

Common employee rights

The right against discrimination Every employer has the right to receive fair compensation in the form of wages regardless of age and gender. Also, temporary staff should receive a decent compensation package if they perform the same tasks and responsibilities. However, most companies continue to underpay women even after constant campaigns that promote women empowerment.

The right to receive minimum wages for organized and scheduled work

The minimum wage act states that every employer, whether skilled or unskilled, should receive a minimum wage pay.

Therefore, if the employer pays less than the stipulated amount in the minimum wage, the employee has a right to take legal action against the employer with forced labor charges. It is entirely wrong for any employer to deny their employees' proper compensation in the form of wages because of their skill set.

The right to receive an earned and paid leave

According to the employers' act, any adult employee who has worked for 20 consecutive days needs to receive at least one earned and paid leave. For children, the earned leave should be one day after they work for 15 straight days. The employer should not deduct any wages from the leave days. The employee can also decide to carry over the annual leave days but do not exceed 30 days. Women also have the right to receive a 26 weeks maternity paid leave.

The right against harassment at work

The harassment act against women in the workplace protects women employees from any form of harassment. As a woman, or any other person receiving inappropriate advances in a workplace, whether big or small, you should report to your employer. The employer should then take immediate action and reprimand the culprit.

Employee rights are necessary because they allow both the employees and employers to understand what they need to do to ensure they are working in a safe and healthy environment. If your employer is adamant to complying with employee rights, you can seek the assistance of workers compensation lawyers.
