You Are Under Arrest!

You Are Under Arrest!
Posted By: Ivan Butcher II on June 26, 2020

To hear that your loved one has died, and under the most **** circumstances, pleading for their life, " I can't breathe!" is heart wrenching.

This is not taking into consideration the many other recent victims dying under very similar circumstances and for similar reasonings. Clearly this is signifying, that this is and has been an accepted practice with in The System, since Slavery.

Now, the others, those that they don't ****, they arrest often for petty offenses, giving them a criminal record destroying their ability to assimilate into society. This hampers their ability to get good employment, housing, grants, loans, scholarship, etc., sometimes even to Vote.

This puts a lot of them in a survival mode, which means to them, quoting Malcolm X, By Any Means Necessary. The youth allude to their crimes committed in this community as, "Street Tax.

"

When I heard about Rayshard Brooks and watched the video of his ****, I first thought; Dame! Why would he do that: resisting, struggling and then trying to flee with the officer's taser.

Crazy, I thought!

But to Rayshard Brooks, hearing those words, "You are Under Arrest!" in the condition he was under and knowing what he was about to be put through, at that moment Jail was not where he wanted to go.

But, then there are those …

Are Black Men Using Jail as a "Cope-Out"?

A "Cop-out," to me, is someone who is capable but would rather make excuses and blame something or someone else for their deeds or lack of doing anything.

A "Cope-out," on the other hand, is someone who would rather let someone else deal with their responsibilities and complains they are not capable.
