...I guess you don't watch HBO...
Posted By: torin ellis on August 16, 2010 By now we have all heard about the radio rant of the Host pictured in this story. In case you are unfamiliar, and are not one of her 9 million listeners, that is an image of Dr. Laura Schlessinger. The conversation abuzz was around the use of the N-word some x number of times. I think the count was 11. And while she never referred to the caller as such, Dr. Schlessinger said at one point: "Oh, then I guess you don't watch HBO or listen to any black comedians." So once again, we'll ask the question: are we being too sensitive and unfair in how and from whom we accept the N-word? Should Dr. Schlessinger be admonished and pulled from the air for a brief period? Should we boycott her sponsors? How do we band together and get 9 million listeners to our black on air personalities? Chime in - school is (back) in session! Why don't we get EQUALLY agitated when the word is uttered on HBO and by so-called comedians. If it's a self respect issue make it a self respect issue regardless of who is saying the word. Credibility comes from consistency. Monday, August 16th 2010 at 11:41PM |
