Police Make Arrest in Firearm Incident
Posted By: Jehan Bunch on January 26, 2010 Huntsville, Ala. ---- A joint Alabama A&M University and Huntsville Police Department law enforcement team have made an arrest in a recent firearm incident which officers say occurred along Meridian Street early Sunday morning, January 24, around 3:30 a.m. Arrested at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 25, was 19-year-old Christopher J. Lofton of Mobile, Ala. Lofton is being held in the Huntsville-Madison County Metro Jail facility with three counts of attempted ****, according to AAMU Chief of Police Charlie Porter. However, additional arrests may be forthcoming, Porter says. In a statement issued Monday morning, AAMU President Andrew Hugine, Jr., stressed that AAMU offers a safe campus environment that is conducive to the educational process and the best interest of the University family. He further stated that the University is strongly committed to the health and safety of its students and employees.
