The Infectious Diseases Discovery group at Janssen Research & Development, is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join the antibacterials team to contribute to our efforts to discover and develop new bacteriophage-based therapies.

In this exciting role you will:

  • Join a dynamic team to discover, validate and develop bacteriophage compositions using a variety of in vitro, ex vivo, and in silico molecular and microbiology assays.
  • Independently and proactively design experiments, correlate genotypic and phenotypic assay results, analyze data and present results during team meetings.
  • Generate data packages required for key project milestones, document results, and contribute to the writing of preclinical technical reports.
  • Evaluate, develop, and apply relevant computational methodology and biology reported in the scientific literature to assay development efforts.

Qualifications
  • PhD with 3-5 or more years post-doctoral or proven experience in Computational Biology, Computer Science, or related scientific discipline is required.
  • Experience working with phage is required.
  • Experience in creating and developing high-performance computational software applications is required..
  • Ability to design, execute, analyze, and accurately document experimental results is required.
  • High degree of technical precision and experience with analytical molecular biology assays such as nucleic acid purification and next generation sequencing is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of standard microbiology techniques and their impact on sample generation for bioinformatic analysis is required.
  • Experience in meta-genomic analysis of ex vivo preclinical and clinical tissue samples is required. This position does not involve direct work with preclinical animals or clinical samples.
  • Engagement in learning new techniques and analytical software is required.
  • Strong motivation and ability to determine solutions to overcome scientific challenges is required.
  • Strong scientific written and oral communication skills, and interpersonal skills is required.
  • Proficiency in working as a member of an R&D team, excellent use of time management skills, and desire to work in a fast-paced environment is required.
