How will you make an impact?
This position is in the Biology R&D group within the protein and cell analysis business unit of the Biosciences Division at Thermo Fisher Scientific. The team focuses on development of novel technologies and tools that enable scientists to interrogate cellular and molecular processes via fluorescence-based platforms. The successful candidate will work with an innovative and cross-functional team of scientists to design and develop fluorescent bioconjugates for high-dimensional spectral flow cytometry. In this role, the candidate will also collaborate with the operations team on scale-up and technology transfer processes. The successful candidate will also partner closely with product management and business development on multi-generation product planning, technology road-mapping and scouting activities.

What will you do?

  • Design, develop, and validate fluorescent bioconjugates for spectral flow cytometry new product development efforts.
  • Plan and execute experiments with minimal supervision. Analyze and report results to team members and stakeholders.
  • Identify gaps, communicate, and lead opportunities for process improvements.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to deliver on milestones based on set timelines
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of relevant fields, competitive landscape, and emerging technology trends.
  • Identify areas of opportunity based on customer demand and unmet needs.
  • Drive technical innovation is the fields on protein and nucleic acid bioconjugation through new product concepts.
How will you get there?
Education and Experience
  • MS/PhD degree in biochemistry, chemical biology, or other related field with 3+ years of experience.
  • BS degree with 5+ years of. Industry experience preferred.
  • Experience in fluorescence imaging, spatial proteomics and transcriptomics desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, and abilities
  • Hands-on laboratory experience in protein, fluorophore, and/or DNA conjugation techniques
  • Experience with protein purification using techniques such as chromatography (e.g. SEC, IEX, affinity) and protein precipitation.
  • Practiced with protein and bioconjugate characterization techniques (e.g. UV-Vis, TLC, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, ELISA, etc.).
  • Aptitude for identifying deviations, troubleshooting, and suggesting alternative improvements.
  • Experience in authoring and optimizing standard operating procedures with a focus on reproducibility
  • Broad and deep knowledge of protein and nucleic acid biochemistry and relevant bioconjugation techniques.
  • Knowledge of general principles of fluorescence and fluorescence detection.
  • Ability to conduct literature searches, identify unaddressed needs, conceptualize, and complete experiments to fulfill customer needs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work alongside colleagues from different backgrounds.
  • Strongly preferred: working knowledge of immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry.
