Senior Director Hosting Operations

Sr Director, Hosting Services Operations

This role will lead 24x7 global operations for J&J - hybrid cloud hosting services, including data center engineering and operations.

We are looking for a qualified candidate with good operational management which includes - Private Cloud services across enterprise data centers, hosting services across all of J&J remote sites and J&J public cloud services on AWS, Azure and GCP. This role also includes management of the overall power, space, and cooling aspects of Enterprise and Edge Data Centers.

Individual will lead a distributed team of engineers and service operations specialists, delivering both reliability and availability to achieve continuous operation of the facility and infrastructure supporting technology environments of compute, storage, database and other technology platforms within the J&J facilities and on J&J offered public cloud services.

The responsibilities also include forecasting and planning for facility and infrastructure capacity to support future technology environments and developing the capital plans to align with forecasted business requirements.

The position is based in Raritan, NJ, USA.

Areas Of Focus:

  • Incident, Service Request including all communications, teamwork, data driven insights, planning and driving continuous improvements of operations
  • Working closely with the Global Command Center and Technology Services leadership to run problem and crisis management
  • Electrical & mechanical infrastructure that is required to support Enterprise and Edge Data Centers to provide data center reliability and uptime in a cost and energy efficient manner that meets the requirements of the business
  • Collaborating with leadership across Information Security and Risk Management in driving and maintaining standards, protocols and operating processes which enable a secure hosting services environment for J&J businesses
  • Partner with peers across JJT teams in delivering technology platforms and services
  • Close partnership with Hybrid Cloud engineering team in driving automation-first mantra and further maturity of technology products and services
  • Partnering with procurement and driving the structuring, execution and governance of multi-year enterprise level licensing agreements
  • Providing leadership to on-shore and off-shore managed services teams
  • Running audits and govern GxP, SOX, HITRUST and other compliance and regulatory aspects across hybrid cloud environments
  • Talent development to drive a future ready automation-first teams

To be successful in this global role you will need a solid understanding of ITSM and related operational process management with focus on continuous improvement with important metrics.

The leader will have extensive experience in a large distributed global enterprise with strong interpersonal skills, deep hands-on technology knowledge and experience and be able to effectively connect with partners at all levels in the organization. Additionally, the leader must have experience working with global associates in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific and Latin America.

As an executive member of the global hosting services leadership team, the candidate will be :

  • Directing staff and influencing indirect teams in identifying, developing, implementing, and maintaining processes, practices, and policies throughout the organization to reduce risks, respond to incidents and overall of hosting services with Cloud First strategy
  • Assessing and providing direction on operationalizing New Technologies and Market Trends across areas
  • Ensuring the organization’s compliance with the local, national, and international regulatory environments

This person will serve as the liaison and have direct interaction with Technology leaders, and will:

  • Work closely with J&J technology groups and operations teams to influence design of these new capabilities across the enterprise for at scale operations
  • Measuring business impact of the services and capabilities and improving effectiveness of solutions
  • Staying connected to the industry peers and trends globally
  • Work as the technology arm of the discovery process for other partners
  • Collaborate with JJT peers and align on risk register for prioritization
  • Keep talent and skills aligned to industry shifts and insights
  • Collaborate with JJT peers and drive prioritization focused on accelerating business outcomes and improving customer/partner experience



Required Minimum:  Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field, Electronic Engineer, Information Systems, Software Engineering and a Master’s degree or equivalent in Technology

Required Years of Related Experience:

  • 20+ years of private cloud infrastructure technologies along with data center engineering and operations
  • 4+ years of experience running enterprise scale operations of multiple public cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) including public cloud IaaS, PaaS and security operations management experience as a service provider
  • Strong knowledge and experience of leading large enterprise operations with ITSM, with demonstrated success in continuous improvement
  • Broad technical/engineering and strong operational expertise in VMWare Hypervisor, Windows and Linux operating systems, Technology experience with modern compute & storage devices, backup & recovery, and database platforms
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with the overall data center environment that spans across facility, raised floor, and structured cabling infrastructure.
  • Strong financial acumen; experience of managing large enterprise budgets >$50MM, enterprise licensing agreements, and managed services contracts
  • Demonstrated governance of various service and integration services providers
  • Significant experience in a regulated (GxP, SoX, HiTrust) environment with hands on experience in audit situations
  • Demonstrated track record of developing and mentoring talent
