ServiceNow Discovery Technology Lead

The ServiceNow Discovery Technology Lead is responsible for the day to day operational processing including; provisioning, supporting, configuring, testing, implementing, and maintaining the J&J ServiceNow Discovery environments. This role will work closely with the technology teams, support teams, and the CMDB organization to maintain an updated and complete ServiceNow application providing accurate configuration Item data and related attributes as well as providing the ability to update the production CMDB with identified CI and attributes. They are responsible for documenting and maintaining operational procedures.



  • Provide technical lead role regarding the ongoing support, administration and maintenance of ServiceNow Discovery platform.
  • Provide technical lead role regarding incidents and problems, working with internal team members to address and remediate identified issues.
  • Supervise and optimize the health and usage of the ServiceNow Discovery platform.
  • Assist with the management of the ServiceNow Discovery environment to perform daily discovery of hardware and software assets in all network segmentations for J&J globally.
  • Provide technical lead role to coordinate and execute platform upgrades and maintenance to the existing ServiceNow Discovery environments.
  • Provision new discovery systems and MID servers where needed.
  • Follow JNJs change control and procedures for deployment of updates.
  • Optimize ServiceNow Discovery schedules, subnet ranges, and MID-servers to reduce network traffic while optimizing discovery time.
  • Provide support for J&J TS internal team members by problem solving, implementing bug fixes, and root cause analysis.
  • Open problem tickets in IRIS and Support ticket in ServiceNow, as needed, to resolve any issues.
  • Find opportunities for, and implement, service improvements to the ServiceNow Discovery operational environment and processing.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation.
  • Stay up to date with new features and functionalities.

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required; a focus in Computer Science/Engineering is preferred.
  • A minimum of 6 years of professional experience is required.
  • 2+ years' experience in a similar role having responsibility for administration, configuration, and implementation of ServiceNow and ServiceNow Discovery or similar tool required.
  • Solid understanding of ServiceNow applications including Discovery, CMDB, Service Mapping, and Reporting required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ServiceNow environment including MID Server architecture for Discovery and Service Mapping functionality, detailed discovery processing scripts, probes, and JavaScript required.
  • ServiceNow Discovery implementation experience required.
  • Ability to engage in detailed technical discussions, and strong problem-solving skills preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills preferred.
  • Confident speaker capable of interaction with executives, engineers and technical contacts preferred.
  • Ability to understand and articulate complex concepts in a clear and concise manner preferred.
  • Strong personal desire to improve industry-related knowledge preferred.
  • This position is located in Raritan, NJ.
