Internal Communication Manager - Executive Communication

 

SUMMARY

 

PetSmart is seeking an experienced internal communications professional to support the communication needs of our Senior Leadership Team. The Internal Communications Manager will be a critical part of a growing team – responsible for developing and implementing an executive communication program and internal corporate narrative that amplifies the company vision, empowers associates to embody our values, and delivers on our brand promise – Anything for Pets.

 

We’re looking for a relationship builder who is proficient at storytelling, understands brand communications and can come up with creative and innovative ideas to inform, motivate, and engage associates through multiple channels. Our ideal candidate is an excellent writer and experienced executive communicator; someone who is highly strategic about messaging, has a keen eye for editing, and an exceptional ability to capture the unique voice of various leaders. This individual must be goal-oriented and a great collaborator, a teammate to others at all levels of the organization. Someone who also understands how strategic internal communications can drive both organizational change and grow a positive culture.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and internal stakeholders across the company to align on our strategy, goals, and priorities.
  • Develop and implement executive communication strategies that elevate leadership impact and visibility, effectively drive awareness of business objectives, and connect, inform and inspire associates at every level.
  • Provide strategic, direct hands-on support to key senior executives, inclusive of curating and drafting content for written messages, as well as preparing materials for internal speaking engagements, such as talking points, video scripts, speeches, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
  • Design structure and develop an editorial calendar of internal leadership messages leveraging a variety of communication mediums to best suit the audience.
  • Proactively identify new opportunities and develop new programs to continually up level our internal and executive communications program.
  • Serve as a point-person on various projects that require communication planning and liaising among multiple client groups.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field
  • 6-9 years of internal, executive and/or corporate communications experience, preferably for a large company.
  • Experience interfacing and working with executives and managing executive-level communications, or writing on behalf of an executive, for a variety of internal and external purposes.
  • Experience developing omni-channel internal communications strategies and creating content, including digital, written, and visual communications materials.
  • Experience driving cultural change and influencing organizations through communications, from audience and stakeholder analysis through implementation and success metrics tracking.

SKILLS REQUIRED

 

  • Exceptional written, oral, and visual communication skills, with the ability to articulate a clear point of view on complicated topics in clear, concise communications and/or presentations.
  • Proficiency writing in AP style with a deep understanding of grammar, excellent attention to detail and fine-tuned editorial skills.
  • Creative storyteller who can deliver compelling, effective messaging across an organization, using a variety of channels, including written and visual mediums.
  • Demonstrated experience building trust and influencing cross-functional teams and senior leaders.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and implement ideas from ideation and development to measurement and evaluation.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, particularly in narrow time frames.
  • A curious self-starter with a proven track record of diving into unknown territory and learning new concepts.
  • Collaborative team player who seeks opportunities to contribute to the team’s broader success.
  • Resourceful and proactive; ability to work well under pressure with a flexible “can-do” attitude.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, in a fast-paced environment.
