The House Keeper of the President’s house is responsible for the general organization, management and cleaning of the College owned residence of the President of Union College. In this collaborative and service oriented role, the House Keeper also plays a key role in planning events and functions that take place at the President’s house.

This position also requires the ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment. The House Keeper must be able to deal with multiple competing priorities and efficiently adjust priorities. At times, the House Keeper will be assigned to assist the Facilities department with cleaning or other responsibilities as assigned in other locations on campus.

The House Keeper position is a full-time position. Throughout the year this role may require evening and weekend hours for special events.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma and a minimum of two years related home management and event planning/management experience required.
  • Previous cleaning experience preferred. 
  • Ability to lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 pounds) required.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and walk up stairs for extended periods of time required.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to interact with individuals at all levels of the College.
  • Ability to operate standard housekeeping equipment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends. 
  • Demonstrated experience to maintain high levels of confidentiality and ability to treat confidential matters/information with discretion.

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage all aspects of internal and external house management including housekeeping, dining, maintenance, etc. 
  • Communicate regularly with key stakeholders to coordinate house maintenance, organize events, and ensure house maintenance is completed.
  • Submit and complete appropriate follow-up documentation for maintenance requests.
  • Coordinate, oversee and work during social events at the President’s House such as board and donor dinners, student events, and more. 
  • Supervise, direct and control custodial duties performed by external stakeholders and ensure tasks are performed accurately and safely.
  • Perform various cleaning actions such as dusting, washing linens, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning etc. in both the President’s house and other facilities as assigned.
  • Monitor inventory of custodial and cleaning supplies and replenish supply and equipment needs when necessary.
  • Observe and report any and all defects, deterioration and wear and tear on the facilities.
  • Perform and track routine inspections.
  • Ensure the house is locked and secure.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
