As the company's second line of defense, Corporate Risk — or Independent Risk Management — provides independent oversight of risk-taking activities. Independent Risk Management establishes and maintains Wells Fargo's risk management program and provides oversight, including challenges to and independent assessment of, the frontline's execution of its risk management responsibilities. We manage risk according to the Risk Management Framework and ensure all employees understand their individual accountability for managing risk.
The Operational Risk Officer will be responsible for maintaining Independent Risk Management (IRM) Information Security (IS) policy. This includes designing, developing, and implementing changes to IRM IS Policy; evaluating regulatory guidance and industry standards the effectiveness of internal controls; and performing oversight of front line information security policy management.
Specific duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
Design and implement IRM Information Security Policy
Maintain knowledge of regulatory and industry guidance to maintain policies in line with guidance
Perform IRM oversight of front line execution of IS Policy
Perform IRM oversight of front line remediation activities to achieve compliance of IS policy
Provide governance of the Information Security policies, procedures, controls, and report, challenge, and track remediation efforts
Perform activities required under the Wells Fargo Operational Risk Program Policy and related policies and procedures (such as Operational Risk Business Oversight Program Methodology)
Provide evidence of IRM compliance to governance and oversight requirements
Support responses to internal testing, audits, or regulatory examinations as needed
Collaborate effectively with Front Line partners, Operational Risk, Legal, and other partners
Lead ad hoc assignments
7+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 7+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in risk management
Experience reviewing testing strategies and methodologies; evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, initiatives, products and internal controls; and identifying issues resulting from internal and/or external compliance examinations
Experience testing policy and procedures/control testing
Advanced Information Security technical skills and solid knowledge and understanding of information security practices and policies
Leadership skills including the ability to influence effectively in a matrix environment
Ability to articulate issues, risks, and proposed solutions to various levels of staff and management
Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) skills
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to influence and collaborate at all internal organizational levels
Knowledge and understanding of Information Security Frameworks and standards (FFIEC, NIST, ISO)
Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment
A BS/BA degree or higher
Other Desired Qualifications
Ability to work in a dynamic environment, and adjust to changing priorities
Working knowledge of Information Security and Operational Risk programs
Enterprise-level operational risk experience and/or risk management experience in multiple lines of business
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
