Consumer Lending Control

The Consumer Lending Control organization serves as the front line of risk management and is accountable for assessing and effectively managing all associated risks for their groups. This team works to ensure internal controls, processes, and procedures are adequate and effective, and executive management understands the risks, exposures, and trends that impact the business. The group also collaborates on projects and initiatives by providing support and awareness of risks and mitigating control solutions.

The Role

The Consumer Collections Auto Control provides aggregated views of risk across the business and counsels business leadership on risks, issues, remediation, and regulatory interactions.  This leader also must foster a collaborative environment that ensures timely communication and strong cooperation between the front line organization and independent risk management under Corporate Risk.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Manages a team to accomplish goals and priorities; coaches/ develops, establishes the priorities, sets expectations and drives accountability in the delivery of the priorities.
  • Provides dynamic and proactive strategic leadership for business-specific programs, processes, and controls; consults on end to end issue management.
  • Partners with business stakeholders to drive improvement efforts to correct or prevent unfavorable trends and assesses impacts.
  • Oversees an entire program or series of initiatives related to a business and/or an Enterprise strategy with significant, recognizable impact across the Enterprise and externally.
  • Drives a risk culture; influence the self-identification of issues and control gaps.
  • Contributes and provides direction towards the development of procedures, guidelines and governance programs.
  • Monitors and evaluates emerging risk, operational trends, and external risk events for potential impact to control environment.
  • Serves as the primary interface and representative with corporate, business heads, Corporate Risk, Legal, Audit, regulators, industry partners. elected officials, and trade groups regarding management of business-specific risk programs.

The Candidate

As a Manager, you are expected to achieve success by leading yourself, your team, and the business. Specifically you will:

  • Lead your team with integrity and create an environment where your employees feel included, valued, and supported to do work that energizes them.
  • Accomplish management responsibilities which include sourcing and hiring talented employees, providing ongoing coaching and feedback, recognizing and developing employees, identifying and managing risks, and completing daily management tasks.


Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in risk management or 10+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 7+ years must include direct experience in risk management
  • 7+ years of management experience



Other Desired Qualifications
  • Meaningful knowledge across enterprise risk management framework, including: risk identification, risk appetite and strategy, risk-related decisions, processes and controls, risk analytics and governance.
  • Knowledge of relevant financial regulations and understanding of how they are implemented, managed and enforced.
  • Deep technical understanding of Collections business operations, processes and customer interactions and where they manifest risk.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills with an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders and regulators, to include virtual, matrixed leadership experience and the ability to effectively manage and build relationships within the business and enterprise Risk function.
  • Proven leadership and project management skills to drive alignment across stakeholder groups to develop and deliver repeatable end to end risk management solutions and controls aligned with business/customer processes.
  • Ethical integrity and demonstrated ability to assess and determine when to raise concerns and escalate.
  • Proven ability to build and lead high performing control risk management organization in a matrixed environment, ensure proper staffing and expertise exists and can coach and enable others in risk management and risk ownership.
