As the company's second line of defense, Corporate Risk — or Independent Risk Management — provides independent oversight of risk-taking activities. Independent Risk Management establishes and maintains Wells Fargo's risk management program and provides oversight, including challenges to and independent assessment of, the frontline's execution of its risk management responsibilities. We manage risk according to the Risk Management Framework and ensure all employees understand their individual accountability for managing risk.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team committed to providing Wells Fargo with transformational management and oversight of Operational Risk. As the Operational Risk Group continues to build out a world-class independent risk management capability, we're seeking superior talent to help transform our risk governance function. The Governance team, within the independent risk management (IRM) Strategy, Planning and Governance organization, owns and executes various  governance functions including governance committees, board liaison activities, RCSA, risk management effectiveness (RME) assessments, business process modeling (BPM), enterprise risk identification and assessment (ERIA), and Basel assessments.

This role will have the accountability and responsibility deliver multiple complex Operational Risk governance functions. Specifically, this individual will be responsible for:

  1. Facilitate Operational Risk execution on various governance function assessments
  • Participate in the Risk Management Effectiveness process for Operational Risk including assessing inherent risk, risk management effectiveness, and residual risk across various risk management capabilities
  • Participate in the execution of the Operational Risk RCSA
  • Coordinate interaction between business process modeling and RCSA for Operational Risk
  • Represent Operational Risk in the enterprise risk identification and assessment process
  • Create/maintain appropriate process documentation

        2. Board liaison functions:

  • Review and provide feedback on board-level reports such as the quarterly Operational Risk Profile report and Risk Appetite & KRI report
  • Liaison to Regulatory Relations team for Operational Risk regulatory reports (e.g. OCC, FRB, and FDIC)
  • Develop Executive Summaries for Operational Risk reports for senior management, committee, and board presentations

       3. Support facilitation of operational risk governance 

  • Develop and drives innovative operational risk approaches and solutions across the enterprise through an effective and collaborative influence model
  • Constructively challenge existing risk management fundamentals or assumptions and develop alternative approaches and
  • solutions 
  • Evaluate long term implications and consequences of strategic business decisions and recommend appropriate alternatives for risk management
  • Effectively managing change 
  • Influence and negotiate with executive management / business leaders as high-level stakeholders 
  • Leads initiatives and virtual teams across the organization to deliver enterprise-wide operational risk management transformation

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 10+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 7+ years must include direct experience in risk management

  • Experience facilitating governance committees
  • Experience with standard Operational Risk assessment processes including Risk and Control Self Assessment (RCSA), Business Process Management  (BPM) 
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance requirements surrounding Basel II and III
  • Demonstrated experience in governance committees, board liaison functions
  • Experience defining and/or developing business initiatives that require integration of multiple risk management functions
  • Experience developing comprehensive report/presentations to senior management, stakeholders, and risk and management committees 
  • Experience defining and/or developing business initiatives that require collaboration between multiple stakeholders and/or lines of business
  • Ability to translate ambiguous ideas/issues into well-defined plans/solutions while influencing the decision-making process;

Job Expectations

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
