The Role

The Head of Diverse Segments for Home Lending will be responsible for creating and executing affordable lending program strategy (lending to low-to-moderate income and minority customers). This executive leadership role is responsible for effectively leading all aspects of the program including accountability for achieving growth, profit goals and LMI and minority lending results. This leader will drive affordable lending strategy and execution with a focus on long-term shareholder value.

Specifically this leader:

  • Engages key business partners within Home Lending and the Enterprise to develop program vision and strategy to advance sustainable homeownership for low-to-moderate income and minority customers and communities (sales, fulfillment, capital markets, product strategy and delivery, marketing, philanthropy, housing affordability philanthropy and community relations, housing policy, innovation) 
  • Establishes and deepens external relationships with minority trade organizations, non-profit housing counseling agencies, housing finance agencies and community advocacy groups to expand presence and outreach; Identifies business development and lead generation opportunities as well as outreach strategies to drive growth    
  • Defines market opportunity and metrics; Monitors the effectiveness of key strategies with a focus on maximizing long-term shareholder value and makes adjustments as needed; Collaborates to develop market plan/ go-to-market strategy to optimize performance all production channels, including Distributed Retail, Centralized Retail and Correspondent to optimize approach
  • Attracts, hires, retains and develops talent 
  • Leverages analytics to identify root cause issues/improvement opportunities and designs approaches to address.
  • Clearly communicates strategy, goals, measurements and results to the Home Lending organization. 
  • Partners closely with Enterprise Fair Lending and CRA compliance teams

This position will align with the work of the Head of Diverse Segments, Representation and Inclusion reporting to the company's CEO. In addition this leader will identify opportunities for collaborating with and leveraging Team Member Networks and Wells Fargo's diversity practitioners in support of improving the diverse client experience.

The Candidate

This executive must have strong understanding of business drivers and processes and be an effective influencer that has credibility with business leaders and able to offer credible challenge as needed. 

This leader must be an exceptional leader and will be recognized for accomplishments related to hiring, retaining, and developing a world-class staff.  Successful candidates will be articulate and possess a demonstrated leadership capability and will have strong interpersonal effectiveness.  Leadership, relationship management, and credibility will be determining factors in selection.



Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of mortgage industry experience
  • 8+ years of strategic planning and development experience
  • 5+ years of leadership experience



Other Desired Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in Home Lending, with extensive knowledge of business lines, products and services
  • Demonstrated experience developing products and service offerings that are targeted to the various diverse customer segments, with knowledge of Affordable Lending Products and Programs
  • Proven market and product development, strategic planning and sales expertise; and experience marketing and creating business relationships with large external organizations
  • Strong risk management and compliance knowledge, and an understanding of the regulatory environment
  • Ability to create and implement customer-oriented, competitive and innovative strategic plans; and translate strategies into clear goals, tactics, action plans and deliverables
  • Proven record of building strategic partnerships, both internal and external to the organization
  • Strong relationship management and proven leadership skills, with solid conflict management, negotiation and organizational effectiveness techniques
  • Ability to influence without direct authority, create and manage (while achieving results) large-scale change and influence people at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead organizational change
  • Demonstrated ability to manage effectively in a matrixed organization, develop partnerships with many business and functional areas, and provide insight into trends which may present opportunities or reflect gaps in the business
  • Proven success recruiting, inspiring, developing, coaching and motivating team members through balanced leadership with a focus on team member engagement and retention and performance management, while cultivating and diverse and inclusive environment
  • Professional executive demeanor, mature and decisive with highly versatile interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong credible relationships with key stakeholder groups including executive management, regulatory examiners and internal auditors
  • An impeccable reputation for integrity, accuracy, consistency, big picture orientation and business acumen.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher preferred

Job Expectations

  • This position requires compliance with all mortgage regulatory requirements and Wells Fargo's compliance policies related to these requirements including acceptable background check investigation results. Successful candidates must also meet ongoing regulatory requirements including additional screening and required reporting of certain incidents.
