The mission of the Great Oaks Foundation is to launch and support a network of charter schools that prepare students for college success through high-dosage tutoring. We seek to do this through unrelenting college focus, redefining high-quality teacher training, and investing in communities.
We strive to ensure that every student receives a high-quality education through excellent teaching, individualized instruction, and an emphasis on strong relationships with students and their families. We believe that highly effective instruction and strong positive school culture are the keys to student success. At Great Oaks we are committed to recruiting and developing talented teachers, school administrators and recent college graduates for our Tutor Corps program through AmeriCorps. We want to create a pipeline of talented educators both within and beyond our network. Great Oaks offers a pathway to a Master’s degree and teacher certification through the Great Oaks Teacher Residency program.
For all roles, we seek hard-working, tenacious people who share the belief that all students deserve a high-quality education.
TEACHERS Great Oaks schools have a robust support structure in place for teachers. Each school has an Executive Director, a Director of Curriculum and Instruction, a Director of Inclusive Learning and is supported by the Chief Academic Office and Director of Coaching at the Great Oaks Foundation. We provide consistent opportunities for coaching and development through weekly observation and feedback sessions as well as regular professional development.
TUTORS The Great Oaks Tutor Corps is a diverse group of recent college graduates with a variety of backgrounds and interests. Some tutors are interested in education policy and wish to experience life on the ground in an urban school. Others plan to pursue a career in medicine, law or to enroll in another graduate program and wish to first give a year of service. For tutors who wish to become high-performing teachers, Great Oaks offers multiple pathways to certification. In exchange for serving as an AmeriCorps Great Oaks Tutor Corps member with us, tutors receive fully furnished housing with utilities and basic household items included, a living stipend, health insurance, a Segal Education Award after completing their service hours and the opportunity to be a part of a community where everyone is passionate about changing outcomes for urban students.
ADMINISTRATORS Crucial to a high functioning school are committed and knowledgeable individuals working outside of the classroom to support teachers, work in functional areas and manage day-to-day operations. We are always looking for talented new team members. Whether you are looking to lead a school, coach and develop teachers, help in school culture, join our operations team or work at our network office – we could use your talent.
