VMFA On the Road Coordinator (Salaried, Exempt)
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is seeking dynamic individuals to fill the role of VMFA On the Road Coordinator in the Office of Education – Art & Education/Statewide.
The VMFA on the Road Coordinator is responsible for the planning and coordinating the Artmobile, “VMFA On the Road” program. The goal of this program is to provide access to the VMFA experience to those who live in remote locations or do not have accessibility to VMFA within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Programs are for general audiences with a focus on youth (grades K-12) and families with young children.
• Development of program curriculum and production of materials
• Extensive travel with VMFA on the Road to present tours, workshops, lectures and teacher programs.
• Scheduling VMFA on the Road residency visits and pre-visit site reviews
• Installation and deinstallation of artworks on VMFA on the Road at each residency
• Point person for VMFA on the Road inquiries and communications.
There are two (2) positions in total for hire.
Qualifications & Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Extensive knowledge in art history, art and museum education and studio art. Knowledge in geography and socioeconomic structure of the Commonwealth of Virginia and neighboring states. Possesses current knowledge of both state of Virginia, Tennessee, and national educational standards. Experience in teaching youth in schools (grades K-12). Demonstrated knowledge in current education trends, methodology and best practices in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Ability to network with schools and organizations throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Effective oral, written and organizational communication skills. Ability to effectively present information in a 1-to-1 and small group settings to customers, clients and other employees within the organization. Ability to have a flexible schedule, inclusive of extensive overnight travel is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and social media. Valid Driver’s License is required.
Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree is preferred) in Art History, Education or related field is required. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated extensive experience related to visual arts, art history, media and film, and handling, audio-visual library management, operation of audio-visual display and inspection equipment. Prior experience working with the general public relative to planning and implementing public programs.
Extensive travel is required.
