Best Memories:
When I was gravely discouraged from attending school during my junior year, I dropped out. At first, I switched to another school, but later decided to obtain my GED. I did. I started working at Carl's Jr but stopped when my knee injury left put me in a cast. That's when I decided to return to school. I chose to enter the local College Prep High School. From there I graduated to attend UCLA along with about 35 other students from my class and school. That was quite an achievement in itself. But, in retrospect, I can now see that that was just a foundational beginning for the rest of my professional life.

My Interview Question
How do you handle your imperfections?
My Current Whereabouts:
I'm currently into making my life work. I have made plans, accomplished some goals, but now, when I should be as successful as the next guy, I am less than that. I am seeking to find profound meaning in the new direction that I take because I'm almost 40 years old and expect to taste success that is by no means shallow in effect. I want to be the best me that I can be, even though it might not be what every one had expected. I must succeed. I'm almost there. When I overcome these serious obstacles, I want to be able to be a blessing to my family and to those who think of me as a role model. I am into serious soul searching at this point in my life--reflections on my life and purpose.
My Life & Professional Aspirations:
I majored in Political Science with the intent to go to law school. Although I talked myself out of doing so my senior year, some 15 years later I think that it is something I should pursue just to make my later years in life better. Now, I struggle with adjusting my perspectives on life and living peaceably with my neighbors. I can't help but think that more can be done to resolve the anger I feel towards them for being at odds or merely so different. I want to be better able to deal with antagonisms. I want the fruit of my experience and wisdom to be useful to all others around me who may be following in my footsteps.
My Biography:
What makes me special is that most of the people around me think that I am different. When I walk into a classroom, most students feel that they have to interact with me on a very serious level. They start frankly telling their friends about what they believe about a person like me. Its as if I've taken a road less traveled by and everyone notices it.

Q&A With C. Dawn Crawford

Do you like Poetry? If you like poetry, check out my website: www.constitutionnetwork.com
"I read your poem on the constitutionnetwork.com site. It was great! This poem is a great vehicle for reminding listeners about the most importatn names in African American History - including our current President, Barack Obama. I also think that its awesome that you, yourself, have had this poem officially registered as your own "speech". Many of us write things that are creative but toss them away rather than list them as significant works of our own genius. Wonerful! :)"

What would you do to raise a High School students, HBCU awareness, to increase HCCU enrollment?
"Great question! I was just sharing with my sister my experiences as a substitute teacher grades k-12. I think that middle and secondary school students need assistance with connecting with parents and their history. Students need to tap into the practice of "recycling the old" (which exists as a background and foundation) as a method for creating the new now (which would be considered cutting edge). Many disciplined and advanced student communicators do this consistently. Children acculturated in black ethnic enclaves have the extra task of learning who they are, who their parents are, and communicating this in the language of mainstream media -using visuals, symbols, icons, the longstanding issues, etc. "
